Review: Head Witch In Charge by Avery Flynn

Image
When two witches with a tangled history are forced to team up, it spells disaster in this steamy rom-com from  USA Today  bestselling author Avery Flynn. It’s the curse of every family’s heir to be the responsible one. My family being the most powerful family in all of Witchingdom doesn’t eliminate that fact, it only makes it worse—and that’s why I, Leona Amber Sherwood, never do the unexpected. Except for that  one time  I did. Believe me, I have rued the day that I got married in a midnight ceremony under a full moon to Erik Svensen, the heir to my family’s deepest, bitterest enemies, and now, he won’t agree to a divorce unless we return an ancient spell book to his family’s secured facility. But on our road trip to return the book, I learn more about Erik as we encounter trolls, nymphs, satyrs, and more. The longer we work together, the more I’m convinced that he might not be the evil trickster I assumed he was. Any more time together will leave me even mor...

Review: The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Image
Three women in three different eras encounter danger and witchcraft in this eerie multigenerational horror saga from the  New York Times  bestselling author of  Mexican Gothic . “Back then, when I was a young woman, there were still witches”: That was how Nana Alba always began the stories she told her great-granddaughter Minerva—stories that have stayed with Minerva all her life. Perhaps that’s why Minerva has become a graduate student focused on the history of horror literature and is researching the life of Beatrice Tremblay, an obscure author of macabre tales. In the course of assembling her thesis, Minerva uncovers information that reveals that Tremblay’s most famous novel,  The Vanishing , was inspired by a true story: Decades earlier, during the Great Depression, Tremblay attended the same university where Minerva is now studying and became obsessed with her beautiful and otherworldly roommate, who then disappeared under mysterious circumstances. As Min...

Review: The Bane Witch by Ava Morgyn

Image
I was given a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.  It was released yesterday, and if you're not in the mood now, it would make for a great read in the fall! Practical Magic meets Gone Girl in Ava Morgyn's next dark, spellbinding novel about a woman who is more than a witch - she's a hunter.  Piers Corbin has always had an affinity for poisonous things - plants and men. From the pokeweed berries she consumed at age five that led to the accidental death of a stranger, to the husband whose dark proclivities have become… concerning, poison has been at the heart of her story. But when she fakes her own death in an attempt to escape her volatile marriage and goes to stay with her estranged great aunt in the mountains, she realizes her predilection is more than a hunger - it’s a birthright. Piers comes from a long line of poison eaters - Bane Witches – women who ingest deadly plants and use their magic to rid the world of evil men. Piers sets out to earn her place in ...

Series I Want To Finish: Stay a Spell Series by Juliette Cross

Image
The Stay a Spell Series by Juliette Cross I read this not long after it was published.  The second book was published in  September but something happened and I wasn't able to get back into the series. It's perfect as we move into the fall season as it follows Savoie sisters, who happen to be witches. What's the worst thing that can happen to a werewolf? Unable to shift for three months, Mateo Cruz knows all too well. His wolf has taken up residence in his head, taunting him night and day with vividly violent and carnal thoughts. Convinced he's cursed, he needs the help of a powerful witch before he literally goes insane. Evie Savoie has always obeyed the house rules of her coven —  no werewolves . They're known for being moody and volatile. So, when a distempered, dangerous werewolf strolls into the bar and almost strangles one of her late-night customers, she's ready to bounce him through the door. But the desperation in his eyes when he begs her to help him ...

Review: Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson

Image
Wow!  This is one of the first ARCs I ever read. The program was First To Read. But I didn't share this on my original blog, so I thought I'd share it here because I didn't have anything else ready to post. My review style has changed since I read this book.  Maybe I need to re-read this book so I can write a better review. Mila Flores and her best friend Riley have always been inseparable. There's not much excitement in their small town of Cross Creek, so Mila and Riley make their own fun, devoting most of their time to Riley's favorite activity: amateur witchcraft. So when Riley and two Fairmont Academy mean girls die under suspicious circumstances, Mila refuses to believe everyone's explanation that her BFF was involved in a suicide pact. Instead, armed with a tube of lip gloss and an ancient grimoire, Mila does the unthinkable to uncover the truth: she brings the girls back to life. Unfortunately, Riley, June, and Dayton have no recollection of their murders...

Not The Witch You Wed by April Asher

Image
Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher My rating: 4 of 5 stars  ⭐⭐⭐⭐/🌶🌶🌶 Of course, I enjoyed this book, paranormal with some rom-com, I'm all in. I enjoyed this world where the supernatural and regular humans live among each other. I love all the characters we meet in this book. The sisters, friends, her grandmother. I can't wait to see whose book we get next in the series. Violet Maxwell also known as the Maxwell Dud, does her best to stay out of the spotlight and closed off from most of the supernatural. While attending the announcement of her sister's Witch Bond, she bumps into alpha wolf shifter Lincoln Thorne. The guy who broke her teenage heart. When the two are forced to find mates by Supernatural Laws, Violet and Lincoln agree to fake date in order to buy themselves some time. But the sudden appearance of Violet's magic complicates things, as well as those old feeling they had for each other. But old secrets keep Violet from fully trusting Lincoln. Blinding...
