Review: Wildwood Magic by Willa Reece

From the author of Wildwood Whispers comes a spellbinding novel of magic and self-discovery when a woman escapes her abusive husband and finds shelter in a magical orchard.

Virginia, 1959.

Raised in a children's home run by religious zealots, Rachel never forgot the wildwood orchard she turned to for refuge as a young girl. When she discovers her reverend husband is more violent than she ever imagined, she flees to protect her unborn child. In a society aiming for the moon, yet still held back by men and women constrained by their fear of change, she discovers a forward-thinking community of wise folk with ancient roots hidden within the greater community of Morgan's Gap.

But when Rachel's husband appears as a self-proclaimed prophet with a repurposed circus tent and a fanatical coterie to wage war against the secluded town that's sheltered her, she will have to tap into her true power to protect everyone.

My Review

Wildwood Magic by Willa Reece
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book, the only parts that were hard to get through were all the things having to do with her husband.

Raised in a children's home by religious zealots, Rachel never forgot the wildwood orchard that offered her refuge as a young girl. Now married to a reverend, she never imagined that he would become violent. She makes the decision to leave him to protect her unborn child.

She makes her way to Morgan's Gap, back to the orchard that once gave her refuge. The old woman who tends the orchard welcomes her back and teaches her all about the magic of the orchard.

When she is called away she leaves Rachel a list of women she needs to seek out and learn from.

A revival tent is setting up just outside of town, with Rachel's husband, a self proclaimed prophet, is there to make the town's sinners repent.

Rachel begins to tap into her true power by weaving a spell to protect the everyone from her husband and his religious acolytes.

Thanks so much to the author and Hachette Audio for this Audio file to review.
