Review: Dark Corners by Megan Goldin

Terence Bailey is about to be released from prison for breaking and entering, though investigators have long suspected him in the murders of six women. As his freedom approaches, Bailey gets a surprise visit from Maddison Logan, a hot, young influencer with a huge social media following. Hours later, Maddison disappears, and police suspect she’s been kidnapped—or worse. Is Maddison’s disappearance connected to her visit to Bailey? Why was she visiting him in the first place?

When they hit a wall in the investigation, the FBI reluctantly asks for Rachel’s help in finding the missing influencer. Maddison seems only to exist on social media; she has no family, no friends, and other than in her posts, most people have never seen her. Who is she, really? Using a fake Instagram account, Rachel Krall goes undercover to BuzzCon, a popular influencer conference, where she discovers a world of fierce rivalry that may have turned lethal.

When police find the body of a woman with a tattoo of a snake eating its tail, the FBI must consider a chilling possibility: Bailey has an accomplice on the outside and a dangerous obsession with influencers, including Rachel Krell herself. Suddenly a target of a monster hiding in plain sight, Rachel is forced to confront the very real dangers that lurk in the dark corners of the internet.

Rachel Krall, the true crime podcaster star of Megan Goldin’s acclaimed Night Swim returns to search for a popular social media influencer who disappeared after visiting a suspected serial killer.

My Review

Dark Corners by Megan Goldin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars  🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I really enjoyed this newest mystery/thriller featuring Rachel. This time she's lured by the FBI into a case that puts her directly in danger. A certain FBI agent wants to keep her safe even if he was the one to drag her into this.

This influencer aspect of this book was interesting. The behind-the-scenes of this world were really cutthroat and I'm sure some of those things really happen.

I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and those last few chapters kept me on the edge of my seat.

Terence Bailey is set to be released from prison in a few days. Initially, arrested for breaking and entering, but local authorities have always suspected him in the murder of six women. Bailey gets a surprise visit from Maddison Logan, a young and popular social media influencer. Hours later, she disappears and police fear she's been kidnapped or worse.

Seeking answers FBI reluctantly contacts Rachel for help in finding Maddison. Maddison only seems to exist on social media, there are no family or friends to contact and the people she does interact with are casual acquaintances. Using an old Instagram account Rachel goes undercover at Buzzcon, a popular influencer conference, where she discovers a world of fierce rivalry.

The FBI must also consider the possibility that Bailey had an accomplice on the outside, further placing Rachel in danger. The monster could be hiding in plain sight as Rachel faces the very real dangers that lurk in the dark.

Thank you so much to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC to review.
